Greetings fellow Nerds and Nerdettes and its with a beaming smile that I tell you about Belfast’s first official Comic Con!

This coming Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June, Belfast’s Kings Hall will play host to the MCM Comic Con, with comic book guests, television and film actors, retro gaming, dealer stalls, Cosplay, oh and robots from BBC’s Robot Wars, this is one weekend that will live up to the hype. There will be talks, workshops (especially for those who are in to comics where there is a dedicated “Comic Village” area to chat and create with professionals and fans alike), and there is even an MCM E-Sports free to play tournament and games area.

Television and movie guests confirmed are Red Dwarf’s Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Hattie Hayridge (Holly) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), Ian McNeice (Winston Churchill from Doctor Who) and James Cosmo (Jeor Mormont from Game of Thrones) to name but a few.

Comic book fans will certainly not be disappointed with guests including Simon Bisley (whose work includes Batman, Judge Dredd and Lobo), Glen Fabry (whose work includes Daredevil, Preacher, Hellblazer), and John McCrea (whose work includes Chopper, Hitman, Superman, Hulk, Spider-Man); all of whom will be residing in the Comic Village and passing on great advice to any budding comic artists.

For gamers, there is the MCM E-Sports Tournament which will link up live to other gamers for the ultimate in e-sports competition. If sports are not your thing, fear not as there will also be DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) where feet stomping is compulsory. For those who are more traditional in their gaming, there will also be a host of retro games and systems including Sega MegaDrives and SNES for the old-schoolers!

Throughout the weekend various guests will be taking to the main stage for chats and tid bits about their more celebrated works and to give attendees that all important Q&A opportunity. Also taking place with be the Cosplay Masquerade, open to all ages and certainly something that is growing in popularity with each event.

I arrived on Earth in 1977 and have virtually devoted my entire existence to cult films, television programmes and cartoons. I am a very big fan of Star Wars and Star Trek; I may struggle with foreign languages but I can order live Gagh in Klingon! I’m the Nerd that knows the trivia but I’m hopeless at sport!
