Mega City One producers say Karl Urban’s Dredd COULD be involved…

Ok, firstly, in case you missed it, there’s a 2000AD TV series coming called Mega City One – you can read all the details on that here.

Secondly, it’s being produced by some of the lovely folk who brought us the Dredd movie. So, naturally, this got many wondering if it would actually be the Dredd TV series we’ve been hoping for or if it would be totally unrelated to the movie.

What we were all actually wondering was would Karl Urban be back as Dredd.

Well, now it seems that it’s not an impossibility that we will see Urban back as Dredd in the show.

Speaking to the 2000 AD Thrill-Cast, producers Jason Kingsley and Brian Jenkins talked about the show and about the chances that we might see Urban return to the role: “We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things,” said Jenkins.

“He’s [Urban] also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant.

“There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow- Basically, we don’t know at this stage.”

So, we reckon the show itself won’t focus on Dredd alone, but rather on life in Mega City One, meaning we could see many Judges and their stories, so it’s possible, if they manage to get Urban, that he’ll only appear a few times a season or perhaps book-ending episodes… basically, what we’re saying here in there is definitely ways of getting Urban involved in a way that suits everyone.

But, look, it’s not confirmation but rather a glimmer of hope.

And hasn’t that always been the deal with Dredd’s future after the movie?

Let us know your thoughts.
