Michael Rooker is Yondu in Guardians Of The Galaxy

April 16th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

According to Deadline, The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker has joined Marvel’s space epic, the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Rooker will play the role of Yondu, who was a founding member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. The actor’s participation in the film comes as almost no surprise as he has worked with director James Gunn on his previous films, both Slither and Super. Many thought he would be playing the voice of Rocket Raccoon.

The other cast members confirmed so far are Zero Dark Thirty actor Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. Zoe Saldana is in talks to join as Gamora ( I hope she gets it). No word yet on Groot or Rocket Raccoon.

I hope that the fact that we will be seeing Yondu may mean we see other members of the original team as well. How cool would it be to see Vance Astro aka Major Victory with Captain America’s Shield?

The film is currently in pre-production in the UK, with Gunn at the helm, and is targeting an 1 August 2014 release date.
