Good news for fans of the Assassin’s Creed games as Netflix has just signed up to make the franchise a TV success too.
The streamer is looking to develop not just a series, but an interconnected TV universe based on the famous game series, with the series being executive produced by Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik. A showrunner is currently being sought.
Peter Friedlander, VP, Original Series, Netflix, said: “We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for.
“From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”
Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television – Los Angeles, said: “We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”
The multiseries idea could work very well for an franchise like Assassin’s Creed, given that the games span many different time periods and, while the Michael Fassbender movie a few years ago was a bit of a damp squib, it certainly teased how great an Assassin’s Creed series could be and I, for one, am pretty excited for this.
What say you all? I wanna hear your thoughts…
