Patton Oswalt to guest star on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD

March 20th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

Just when you thought it couldn’t get bigger than Bill Paxton and Adrian Padsar, Marvel goes and brings in another famous actor. This time, Patton Oswalt.

Yes, the man who did a filibuster about a Star Wars/Avengers crossover will now join the ranks of Agents of Shield as Agent Eric Koenig. In case you didn’t know, Eric Koenig was actually a member of the Howling Commandoes in the comics. It’s unclear whether that is the case here, though given the age he would have to be, it’s unlikely.

Now if you’re wondering how he got on the show it’s really simple. They asked him to be on. No, seriously.

“I got a call from my agent saying they want you on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I said ‘hell, yes,’”

Oswalt really feels the show is coming into its own, and believes it’s getting really deep in regards to story.

“They’re using the Jonathan Hickman model of wheels-within-wheels,” explains Oswalt. “It’s getting into that John Le Carre, ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ world now, which creates even more tension because you don’t know, is someone lying to me, and are they doing me a favor by lying to me? That’s really great stuff to play as an actor.”

Agents of Shield returns on Tuesday, and will continue without breaks for the rest of the season, which ends on May 13th, 2014.
