The new Power Rangers movie will be ‘character-driven’, Dean Israelite has said.
Helming only his second feature length project following Project Almanac, the director told Empire Magazine that he had grown up with the TV series.
“I grew up on it and I have all the same questions other people have,” he said. “How are we going to update this? How will it exist in the contemporary superhero cinema canon?” The director said that he’s “tried to add naturalism and a grounded nature,” with an emphasis on everything being very much “character-driven”.
Added to the mix are Elizabeth Banks and Bryan Cranston, the latter being hesitant in . “Like everybody, [Cranston] was sceptical,” he said. “But he saw a bunch of footage and got excited for the potential. I think it’ll be a thrill for fans to see what we’re doing with Zordon.”
Power Rangers hits cinema screens in March, 2017.
