Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello says The Batman will be a ‘legendary’ movie

March 7th, 2017 by Marc Comments

We don’t need to tell you guys there’s been a lot of concern over The Batman solo movie in recent months.

First the script was reported to be a mess, then Ben Affleck stepped down as director with some saying he was so unhappy he was leaving as star too. Then Matt Reeves was directing. Then he wasn’t. Now he is.

So it’s true to say that we and many others were trying to stay positive but we’re feeling a little battered for it.

However, now the actor who will be playing Deathstroke in the movie, Joe Manganiello (check out the awesome first look at him in costume in the tweet from Ben Affleck at the bottom of the page), has harsh, but reassuring, words… don’t be ‘drama queens’ because all is fine with the movie!

Speaking to Chef Irvine about the rigorous training and diet he has to endure for a role like this, the actor addressed all the recent news and was pretty confident all is well in Gotham City: “They have big plans for this movie. Whether or not we start exactly on that date [May this year] or in June, whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. Here’s the thing: The creative process needs to be respected and no one involved in this film wants to make anything less than an unbelievable film, a legendary film.

“The movie will start shooting whenever those pieces are in place and we know this is gonna be something that we’re proud of. What we’re not gonna do is be backed into a start date, scrambling to get something off the ground just to get it off the ground. Everyone involved wants to make this the best film possible, so that’s really what it’s about. It’s funny how the media likes to run with, ‘Oh there’s trouble!’ ‘Oh, the script needs to be revised!’ They’re drama queens.

“There’s a creative process, and everyone on the cast and crew wants to make this the best movie possible. So that’s what we’re gonna do. When we start shooting it, we’ll start shooting it. It will be soon, I can say that. Here’s the thing: No one wants to create that superhero movie that’s polarizing to fans and critics. Rest assured, we’re gonna do this thing right.”

We are still confident that what he’s saying it true – we speculated a few weeks ago that DC/Warners have hopefully finally got themselves together (here) and we’re confident that with Affleck and Reeves, The Batman will truly be a Dark Knight movie to rival Burton and Nolan.

Are we deluded? Let us know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
