Roberto Orci clear frontrunner to direct Star Trek 3

May 10th, 2014 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

It was revealed few weeks ago that writer/producer Roberto Orci, who is penning the script for Star Trek 3, actually wants to direct it too.

Now, Deadline reports that he has entered negotiations with Skydance Productions and Paramount to helm the film and is the clear frontrunner for the position.

This comes after Orci parted company with longtime partner Alex Kurtzman (though they continue to work together on TV projects).

Having previously written both new Star Trek films, Orci is joined by screenwriters Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, on the script for Star Trek 3.

There’s no release date for the film yet, but the franchise will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016.
