RUMOR: EA Canada developing an open world, next-gen Star Wars game

November 28th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

It was just a week ago that EA Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Blake J. Jorgensen stated that EA would not be making games based on the Star Wars movies.

We may now have an idea as to one of those games. According to several job ads spotted by Kotaku, describing a project at EA Canada as “a major new next gen open world action game”, being developed by a Star Wars teams.

The site suggests that two other executive producer position listings may indicate a collaborative process between EA Canada in Vancouver, and Visceral Games in Redwood Shores. As EA revealed earlier this year via more job posts that Visceral was working on a next-gen Star Wars project.

EA Canada is the developer of FIFA and other sports titles, but has down-sized its non-sports development staff the last couple of years. If true they would have to beef up staff significantly.

The only officially announced Star Wars game since Disney acquired LucasArts and the subsequent deal with EA is DICE’s new Battlefront game.

What would you want from an open world Star Wars game?
