Last year, Sony Pictures announced a release date for both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4, on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018 respectively. A few months later, they revealed plans for two spin-off films as well, Venom and The Sinister Six. No release dates for the spin-offs were announced.
Now, producer Matt Tolmach says that we’ll be seeing the two spin-offs before the fourth Spider-Man film.
In an interview with Den of Geek Tolmach revealed:
“Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, We’re going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies. So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be.”
Tolmach went on to say that while the May 2018 date is for a Spider-man film, it may not necessarily be an Amazing Spider-Man film.
So to sum up The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is still scheduled for 2016 for now. Two more films in the Spider-Man universe will be released before The Amazing Spider-Man 4 swings into theaters, with one likely to take the May 2018 release date.
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon will write the Venom spin-off, which Kurtzman will direct. Drew Goddard will write and is nearing a deal to direct The Sinister Six. Marc Webb will direct Amazing Spider-Man 3 but has said he will not direct the fourth, hoping to be involved as a consultant instead.
