THE BIG INTERVIEW: FTN meets the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes cast and director

June 26th, 2014 by Andrew McCarroll Comments

A remake of a classic directed by an English indie director starring James Franco as a scientist and Drako Malfoy as an animal torturing dick sounded like a horrendous idea. But somehow Rise of the Planet of the Apes delivered a smart, engaging and thrilling addition to the apes movie cannon.

Of course all of the above have been ditched for the sequel, Matt Reeves of the brilliant/shaky Cloverfield takes over directing duties and brings with him a solid cast including Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke. Set eight years later, this movie will deal with the uneasy alliance of man and Ape following the spread of the virus that closed out the first film. Confidence is high in this movie as part three has already been given the green light, with Reeves returning to the directors chair.

Footage so far looks impressive and Reeves has assembled a brilliant cast of talented actors as opposed to big name stars. With most of the summer’s big names already taken their bow. The stage is set for Caesar and his crew to conquer the box office.

Just a few short weeks away from its July 11th release date.  Following the Nerd was given the opportunity to take part in a live web chat with Director Matt Reeves and Cast Keri Russel, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis and Jason Clarke. We were also treated to an exclusive scene from the much anticipated sequel. Sadly it doesn’t appear if we will be treated to a Dr Zeus musical number but keep them fingers and damn dirty paws crossed.

The interview begins at the 21st minute with our own Andrew McCarroll coming in at the 42:30 mark…

Enjoy

Andrew McCarroll never quite built on the dizzying career heights that he hit at 6 years old, when as a member of the “Ghostbusters” he would charge his neighbours to remove any unwanted spectres. Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
