Tom Cruise chose to accept the mission. Mission Impossible 5 is a go!

May 6th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions just signed star Tom Cruise to return for a fifth film in the blockbuster franchise, Mission Impossible.

This confirms rumors that began after 2011′s Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol became a massive hit, grossing over $700 million worldwide on a $145 million budget. The studio has yet to officially announce a writer or director but the talk is Christopher McQuarrie, who last directed Cruise in Jack Reacher.

Either way, it’s believed that deal to put a writer and director in place will be finalized shortly. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will help develop the project. There’s currently no word on whether Jeremy Renner, who was at one point being lined up to replace Cruise, will return.
