TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Flash Season 5 Episode 12: Memorabilia

January 30th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

Well…this was a surprisingly fun episode. “Memorabilia” dealt with Flash’s plan to try and get Grace to wake up, only for Nora to jump the gun to save her own skin, and then led to not one but two mind trips as things got weird.

The idea of the mind meld of sorts was actually really brilliant, as the use of the mind to wake her up was a good plan. And with Grace awake, Cicada could potentially be stopped. But, when the idea of the others on the trip looking in on each others minds Nora freaked, and tried to go in herself.

Then, when Barry and Iris went in to save her, they accidentally went into Nora’s instead. Showing them one of her traumatic childhood memories.

Focusing on Grace, I loved the twist that she was infected with the satellite, and it allows her to hear everything that’s going on in her hospital room, giving her a clouded perception of what her uncle, Cicada, is doing for her. Her becoming Cicada herself is something i hope gets played out in one form or another. Especially since she’s now got a beef with Nora.

Seeing Nora’s version of that day at the Flash Museum was very poignant, as it shows how a childs’ angry view of things can alter what really happened. And the “angry version” of Iris’ future haunting the present version really tied things together in a fun way. And I’m glad that Nora admits what she did and said to her mother in the beginning of the season was wrong. So now they can truly go forward with things in their relationship.

Also, Iris is starting her newspaper! Awesome!

Not so awesome? The Cisco/Dinby storyline. I mean, yes, Dibny was trying to be a good friend to Cisco, but it was clear fodder for the other storyline. And while Cisco did meet a new lady friend (who I bet he sets up with Iris at her new paper…) I just felt it could’ve been handled better.

In the end, “Memorabilia” was a fun episode that pushed things forward without stalling out on the “save Grace” storyline. And now with the notion to use the cure on Cicada an option…things could get even more interesting.
