Zoe Saldana to star in TV remake of Rosemary’s Baby

January 10th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

The upcoming mini-series of Rosemary’s Baby has found its lead. Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Avatar) will play the titular character in NBC’s four part horror mini-series.

The mini is set to have a few differences to the 1968 Roman Polanski film however. Instead of being set in New York, this time the series will chronicle events in Paris. No reason has been given for this change but Agnieszka Holland who is set to direct and screenwriters Scott Abbott and James Wong have said this is being positioned as a more authentic adaptation of Ira Levin’s book than the original film was, despite it too being set in New York.

In the book and original film, a young married couple move into an apartment where life seems perfect until the wife, Rosemary gets pregnant and starts to suspect that her neighbours and husband have satanic plans for her and the child.

NBC has found great success with its other horror series, Hannibal and will be looking to replicate that with Rosemary’s Baby when it airs later this year. With the casting of Saldana who is set to also star this summer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s definitely shaping up to be one to watch.
