Aaaand… Neil Blomkamp is now off the Robocop sequel

Shortly after director Neil Blomkamp revealing that the new Robocop movie – Robocop Returns – would feature the original suit as featured in the 1987 original, it seems that there’s now more news… bad news.

Previously, Blomkamp, in a tweet, wrote:  “Script is being written. Going well! Imagine watching Verhoeven do a followup film.”

However, now he shared the news that he’s off the project:

Blomkamp was writing the script for the movie but it wasn’t exactly his own as he was working off a script done by the original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner to add yet another level of authenticity to the work.

Man, this is just like his Alien sequel all over again…

Anyway, whatever way this all pans out, it seems Blomkamp is now working on his own new horror project and we’re still getting a new Robocop movie so, should it pan out, this could be a win-win for the fans.
