It looks like one of the biggest Batman books of all time is set to get an animated outing.
Word is growing that DC animation if developing a Knightfall trilogy of movies that will chronicle, just as the comics in the 90s did, the rise of the villain Bane, the first man to actually break Batman, literally, breaking his back in Knightfall, leading to Batman’s replacement, Azrael, in Knightsquest and then the return of Bruce Wayne in Knightsend.
The comics were a big part of my Batman fandom – and no doubt, many others’ – growing up, so this is certainly something to be excited for. It’s also worth noting that although stopped down greatly, The Dark Knight Rises was based on Knightfall.

It also seems that the movie will star Anson Mount as Batman, a role he previously played in the animated Injustice movie, meaning that the trilogy will likely be a standalone event, not linked to the Tomrrowverse animated universe which ended recently after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DCU.

There are no more details on this project as of now and it’s still a mystery when it’ll be released or who will play the principal characters – if they try to do the comics justice, there’s going to be a heck of a cast.
I love the animated DC universe but when it comes to outright adaptations such as The Long Halloween and Hush, they’ve fallen short; let’s hope this endeavor fares better.
