Well, it looks like the Harry Potter franchise is set to get another massive revival alongside Fantastic Beasts.
And, to be honest, we’re not terribly surprised…
Word on the Hogwarts Express is that Warner Brothers are looking to bring the hit West End play and successful book/script Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to the big screen.
And there’s a few things extra… they want a trilogy (sure why not?) and they want Daniel Radcliffe back as Harry – we resume this means they want Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and the rest of the surviving cast/characters back too.
However, we’re hearing that Radcliffe may take a little persuading… although, we doubt it to be honest: “Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry,” according to a well-placed Hollywood source.
“However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon — and that could be until he hits 40.”
“Daniel had that job for over a decade with huge success and critical acclaim, but since then he has really established himself as a very strong actor with films like ‘The Woman in Black’ and his Broadway work,” according to said insider. “He doesn’t need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading.”
We reckon that, wether this is true or not, Warners will be pushing hard to get this new chapter in the Potter story on the big screen and they’ll certainly want the original actors back – it would make perfect sense given the passage of real-time in the story – but one way or the other, expect the next Potter trilogy soon; probably after the Fantastic Beasts trilogy wraps in 2018.
Thoughts?
UPDATE:
Warners have responded to the above rumour, saying simply: “’Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”
We still maintain it’ll happen. Sooner or later.
