Avatar sequel gets full title and trailer coming next week

April 28th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We finally have a title for the first Avatar sequel thanks to CinemaCon 2022.

The movie will be called Avatar: The Way of Water and will once more focus on Jake and Neytiri, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, as will the other four sequels.

It was also revealed that the first movie will be getting a remastered cinematic release starting on September 23rd, 2022 ahead of the sequel’s Christmas release – maybe writer/director James Cameron is looking to get that number one movie of all time title back from Marvel?

This is the first of four (four!) sequels and each movie will be a standalone adventure but will be one larger story when seen together.

Cameron said in a recorded message at the event that, as with the first Avatar, the movies aim to ‘push the limits of what cinema can do’.

The trailer will be attached to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 6th and will hit online a week later.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water will be directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Landau. The film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.

Avatar: The Way of Water hits cinemas on December 16th, 2022.
