Ben Affleck: I AM directing the Batman movie!

You may remember last week that Ben Affleck said he would probably direct the Batman movie but it ‘wasn’t set in stone’ (here).

He added that he wasn’t going to do it until he was happy with the script – which he’s writing with DC’s Geoff Johns at the minute – and while many took this as a sign that the movie was in trouble or that DC had screwed up again (not our words, we think DC is doing just fine with Man of Steel, Batman V Superman (ultimate edition) and Suicide Squad).

However, we took it as encouraging. Affleck, with movies like Gone Girl, The Town, The Accountant and Live By Night on his recent CV, has become a respected writer, director and actor and we loved him in BvS and Suicide Squad as Batman, so we’re confident that, after the shambolic release of BvS last year, that he’s prepared to put the hours in to make sure his stand alone movie is something special.

He has now confirmed that he IS directing the Batman movie and that there’s a lot of great stuff in the script right now but it’s still not perfect. And is is working on it.

He’s struggling for perfection in the Batman movie which he IS directing. And that sounds awesome to us.

Do we want it tomorrow? Of course we do… but for the movie he’s promising we can wait a while.

Can’t you?

The movie will likely begin filming this summer.

Here’s the Kimmel clip:

And here’s him saying a lot of the same stuff in a separate interview:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
