Axel Foley is coming back!
Yes, it looks like we are finally getting Beverly Hills Cop 4 with star Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, only this time he’ll be on the small screen (does anyone still have a small screen?) as it’s being licensed by Netflix thanks to a Paramount one-time deal.
The fourth instalment of the franchise originally kicked-off in 1984 will see another long-term, well-known character return to the screen and because it’s heading to Netflix, there’s no financial risk for Paramount. Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Paramount and Netflix have so far given us Cloverfield: God Particle and Annihilation, so there’s definitely a good track record there.
Given Murphy’s success resurgence with Dolemite Is My Name, this is a smart move. Will the new movie manage to capture the politically incorrect rawness of the first two movies? That remains to be seen but given Netflix’s streaming of Dave Chappelle’s Sticks And Stones and Shaft last year, it’s a source of confidence that they aren’t afraid to cut to the bone.
What say you all? The return of Axel Foley… who’s in?
