Some fun news today as it seems that Bill Murray has returned to the town of Woodstock Illinois to film an ad for Jeep.
What’s the big deal? Well, in the 1993 comedy classic Groundhog Day, Woodstock doubled for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the town where Groundhog Day was celebrated and Bill Murray’s Phil Connors gets stuck in a near eternal time loop, living out the same day over, and over, and over…
In the movie, directed by the late Harold Ramis, Connors only broke the loop when he got Andie McDowell’s Rita Hanson to finally fall for him.
So now Murray is back in the town in what is rumoured to be a Super Bowl Ad, which explains why it’s such a big deal.
It also seems that Stephen Tobolowsky is back as Ned, who becomes a hilarious part of Phil’s morning routines: “Watch that first step, it’s a doozy!”
My guess is the ad will be set-up as being part of Phil’s eternal time loop, where he’s still stuck in Punxsutawney and maybe has actually started to age.
Who knows, but with Ghostbusters: Afterlife having Murray back and this revisiting of another of his classics, 2020 is going to be a fun year for Murray… and his fans.
Here’s the images of Murray and Tobolowsky on set:
