Black Mask is the villain of the Birds of Prey movie… brilliant!

August 7th, 2018 by Marc Comments

It looks like DC/Warner’s Birds of Prey movie has found its villain… and it’s a great choice!

It seems that Black Mask will be the big bad in the Batman/Harley Quinn spin-off movie based around a gang of DC’s most badass ladies.

The film will feature Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya and a young Cassandra Cain, alongside star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

the story we’re hearing is that a gangster – who we now know is Black Mask – kidnaps a young girl, Cassandra Cain (a future Batgirl) who has to be rescued by, you guessed it, the Birds of Prey AKA Black Canary, Huntress and GCPD’s Renee Montoya.

This sounds like a great way into the Batman universe on screen beyond the main man himself.

Created by Doug Moench and Tom Mandrake, Black Mask made his first appearance in the comics in August 1985’s Batman issue #386. The Black Mask is a brutally sadistic kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld who has a fixation with masks.

In DC Comics Black Mask is the criminal alias of Roman Sionis, who murdered his wealthy, status-obsessed parents to take control of the family corporation, then lost everything when he proved to be a terrible businessman. Seeking revenge on the people he blamed for his own failures — particularly Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises — he returns, hidden behind an ebony black mask, at the head of a gang called the False Face Society.

Birds of Prey will star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn again and she’ll also produce the movie which will be directed by Cathy Yan.

We’re stoked for this and can’t wait to see these characters come to life on the big screen much as we did when we saw the Suicide Squad roster.

What say you all?
