With the sad passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman earlier this year, many wondered what would happen to his character of T’Challa in the MCU moving forward.
And, while the Black Panther sequel was originally set to film next March, it seems that the star’s legacy will carry on as Black Panther 2 is now set to begin filming in July 2021 in Atlanta.
While nothing certain has been confirmed about how the story will move forward without Boseman, word is that it’s likely going to be Letitia Wright’s Shuri, T’Challa’s sister, who will pick up the mantle of the Black Panther and, on top of that, while the story will likely address Boseman’s absence, we will not be seeing a CGI version of him in the movie.
Victoria Alonso, the executive vice president of Marvel Studios said: “No. There’s only one Chadwick, and he’s not with us.”
He added: “Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honour this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.”
On top of this, we know that Mexican actor and Narcos star Tenoch Huerta (left) is now in talks to play one of the movie’s big bads.
Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are all also expected to return with Michael B Jordan’s Killmonger rumoured to return too despite dying in the first movie.
What say you all? Would you like to see Shuri as the new Black Panther? Or do you think a CGI Boseman is acceptable for the sake of the story? Let me hear all your thoughts, gang.
