The Happy Death Day series is a unique one among Blumhouse’s horror oeuvre as it offers a forest twist on an old idea.
Starring Jessica Rothe as Tree, a college student who wakes up in a time loop on the day she’s murdered by a killer in a grotesque baby mask – it’s the school mascot – think Scream meets Groundhog Day, Tree has to solve her own murder or she’s doomed to repeat her own death for eternity. The sequel has Tree delving into why there’s a time loop and it gets even weirder.
While the sequel promised a trilogy closer, it never happened and seemed to be unlikely to ever appear… but now it looks like it may finally see the light of day.
In a new Twitter AMA, Blumhouse boss Jason Blum (here) was asked about the third movie and he gave a rather hopeful answer, saying: “Something is stirring.”
Now, obviously, it’s not giving away a lot of detailed information for sure, but it certainly sounds like it’s on the cards.
And this is good news as the franchise was one that actually took me by surprise and was a lot more fun than I has expected, so I’ll be burning the homefires in anticipation of this third chapter in this mental but fun series.
What about you all? any fans in the house? Let me know…
