Some breaking news from space! Though everything appeared to be going well for the next film in the Star Trek franchise, it’s now being reported that Bob Orci is no longer director for the film.

The reason for his departure is not clear at this time, however, his script for the film will most likely still be used. Also, a possible replacement has been found in the form of Edgar Wright, though no official deal has been made as of yet.

Star Trek 3 does not have a confirmed plot or release date as of yet. But rumors are that the film will feature a more space-centric story in the vein of the original series. As for the release date, many believe it’ll occur around the 50th anniversary of the franchise, which takes place in 2016.

We’ll bring you more details as things develop…
