It’s been almost three weeks since it was announced that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were returning to The Mummy franchise and now Fraser has discussed his highly anticipated return to the franchise that made him a household name.
He and Weisz starred in the first two movies, 1999’s The Mummy and 2001’s The Mummy Returns, as RIck and evie, but Weisz was replaced by Maria Bello in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and while Bello did the best in the role, Fraser and Weisz’s chemistry was missing from the series and was always a big part of the first two movies’ fun.

Now, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, the guys behind Ready or Not, Abigail and the recent Scream revival movies, are stepping up to bring the magic back.

We’re big fans of Fraser, Radio Silence and the first Mummy movie, so I’m not exaggerating when I say that we here are FTN HQ are excited at these elements all coming together for one more stab at at a movie that feels like a proper old-fashioned Saturday morning adventure.
But here’s my suggestion… after Tom Cruise’s Mummy movie failed a few years ago, taking the entire Dark Universe plan at Universal with it, I would introduce the wider universe of classic monsters such as Dracula, The Invisible Man, Creature from the lack Lagoon and Frankenstein into this new movie and let’s see how Radio Silence handle a new take on the Dark Universe.
Just my thoughts.
Welcome back, Brendan, we’ve missed you.
