Bruce Campbell says there’s loads more Evil Dead coming as new spinoff is announced

February 11th, 2024 by Marc Comments

If, like us here at FTN HQ, you’re a big fan of the Deadites, then we have some great news… there’s a lot of blood, guts and the undead still to come!

After the success of Evil Dead Rise last year, the desire for more Evil Dead, the classic, scare the crap out of you then head you with a dismembered arm, type and it seems that you gore fans are going to get just that.

“We’re going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years,” says star of the original trilogy and Ash Vs Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell, adding: “But, hey, we’ve seen with Star Wars – you don’t want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them.”

Speaking of Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin, Campbell said: “He did a great job, to the point where he’s going to be hard to employ again because everybody wants to use him now. So we’ll see if we get him back or not! It’s made the most money of any Evil Dead movie so far at $140 million. So, yeah, you bet your bottom dollar we’re going to do a few more.”

Evil Dead Rise cameo may have pathed the way for Bruce Campbell to return as Ash Williams…

Oh, please, Bruce, choke us! (That sounded better in my head).

Well, the grip is beginning to tighten with a ‘spin-off’ movie currently in development.

Ok, so the use of the term ‘spinoff’ confused me here but it seems that as it is, the movies and TV series starring Campbell as Ash Williams is the core Evil Dead and anything else, such as Fede Alvarez’s superb Evil Dead in 2013 or last year’s Evil Dead Rise are considered spinoffs as it’s a fresh group of characters albeit it the same world/universe.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter, Instagram, Youtube, Bluesky,
Truth, Tumblr, Threads & Mastodon!

With the new movie, little about which is known, we will see the return of franchise creator Sam Raimi and Evil Dead Rise’s Robert Tapert to produce with Vermin and Mayday director Sébastien Vaniček co-writing and directing – meaning that, once again as with Cronin, the franchise is helping to mold and create the next generation of terrifying movie directors.

We can also assume that the new movie will not be the sequel we’re likely eventually getting to Evil Dead Rise but something new, fresh and disgustingly fun.

As for Campbell’s Ash Williams returning? Well, no. But maybe. Campbell is still a complicated man when it comes to Ash’s future but I know I’d love nothing more to see him back, chainsaw arm and all!

Did Bruce Campbell just hint that he might be returning to the Evil Dead franchise?
