Holy crap! Some new Star Wars news to really get excited for!
Ok, so this is a rumour from FivesWalker on X, who has had a pretty solid history of Star Wars rumours, and it’s about Irish animation house Cartoon Saloon, the guys behind Wolfwalkers, The Secret of Kells and the astonishing Song of the Sea.
You might recall that in Star Wars: Visions season 2, Cartoon Saloon had an animated short called Screecher’s Reach, and you might also recall it was a gorgeous and haunting Star Wars ghost story that set the scene for a young Force user called Daal who may have accidentally stumbled into the Dark Side of the Force.

Well, you might also recall that just a few days ago, when the trailer for the Star Wars Visions animated series The Ninth Jedi dropped, Disney/Lucasfilm called it “part of an all-new ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents’ banner, which will be used to tell longer-form ‘Star Wars: Visions’ stories.”
When I read that, the first thing I thought was that I would love, love, love for Cartoon Saloon to get a full series and it looks like my prayers may have been answered… well, maybe not the series bit.
Word from FivesWalker is that Screecher’s Reach is set to become an animated movie from Cartoon Saloon, with a 2027 release the plan.

According to the report, it’s unclear if it’ll be a bigger adaptation of the short or a sequel and FivesWalker reports that “I’ve been told that they have awards hopes for this film so it most likely will release in theaters, maybe a limited about though.”
While I am a stickler for canon projects and tend to not be as excited for non-canon stories, this short was stunning, and I have been a massive Cartoon Saloon fan for many years, so this not only has my interest, it has my excitement levels through the roof too.
The scooper is also reporting that Lucasfilm are developing another Star Wars animated movie, but there are no details on that yet. With 2027 being the 50th anniversary of A New Hope, I would imagine there’s lots of Star Wars goodness still to be announced.
