We learned for sure that a fifth John Wick movie was in development at CinemaCon back in April, which was a surprise because, well, in the fourth movie, John’s story seemed to have ended.
John Wick 5 was set to see Keanu Reeves’ return as Wick and will once again be directed by Chad Stahelski who promised that it wouldn’t be happening “unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson said, adding: “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
Well, it seems that they have found the angle and broke the story because Stahelski, in a new interview, has given a small tease of just what John Wick 5 will be… or rather, what it won’t be.
John Wick 5, Caine spinoff and anime prequel movie confirmed and we have the details
“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” he says, referring to the end of the fourth movie, “So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief.
“It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy f@%k… I gotta see that.’”
Ok, given that it’s John Wick and we love that world, we’re saying that already and we don’t know a thing about the movie, however, Stahelski goes on to tease that the new movie will come not just from the four movies that already exist but from the stuff that is still to come.

You see, we know that Donnie Yen’s Caine movie is coming, we have Ballerina coming next month, there’s at least one TV series in development (based around the High Table) and an anime prequel which will explain just how Wick got out of the killing business prior to the first movie and it’s in there that the story for John Wick 5 will be sown: “The John Wick TV show and the animation are big priorities,” says Stahelski.
“Our idea is to try some things and explore some threads and use those two properties to catapult us forward into the ideas for John 5.”
As much as I love the John Wick movies, it’s what’s still to come that I think I’m most excited for.
Thoughts? I know you have ’em and I want to hear them all.
