With the news that the Fast & Furious franchise is expanding faster than the MCU ten years ago with Hobbs & Shaw hitting in August, the ninth movie filing soon and a female spinoff in the works, we’re still ravenous for any new news we can get.
And today we have a doozy!
Word is that Charlize Theron’s Fate of the Furious villain, Cipher, is set to get her own movie as Universal are brainstorming ways to keep the series going after Vin Diesel and the original cast move onwards (and upwards?).
“The studio is exploring other ideas, including a female-fronted ‘Fast and Furious’ spinoff built around Charlize Theron’s character Cipher from ‘The Fate of the Furious.’ The question for Universal, says a rep with important talent in the films, is ‘How do you broaden the franchise? How do you Avengers-ize it?’”
Cipher was a pretty bad-ass villain in the eighth movie; a cyber-terrorist who manipulated Diesel’s Dominic Toretto to doing her (evil) bidding, so her return to the series – which was very much implied by the movie’s end – would be a welcome one.
What do you all reckon? Would you like to see more F&F movies spin-off from the core series? I’m definitely up for it…
Hobbs & Shaw is the next movie in the franchise to arrive and it’ll be on August 2.
