Chicken Run sequel heading to Netflix… without Mel Gibson

June 25th, 2020 by Geralt of Australia Comments

After 20 long years the stop motion classic Chicken Run is finally getting a sequel coming straight to Netflix.

Aardman and Netflix have announced that the long awaited sequel will go into full production next year in partnership with Dreamworks Animation.

Sam Fell (Flushed Away) will be directing the feature along with Steve Pegram producing who’s worked on stop motion before on the legends that are Wallace and Grommet. They will be joined by co-directors Nick Park and Peter Lord who both worked on the original movie back in 2000.

The original writer Karey Kirkpatric will be returning to write the upcoming feature that will pick up almost directly where it left off. If the first title was known as the great escape, the second one will be known as the great break-in. This shall feature the child of Rocky and Ginger who is becoming rather curious of the outside world away from their little stretch of paradise. During this time the chickens hear of something that will endanger their future and the future of all chicken everywhere and must do something to stop it.

We can assume that all the actors who are available will be coming back to play their respective roles, all with one exception, however, Mel Gibson will not be reprising his role as Rocky due to claims and issues that the other cast members had with him during the filming of the original. The role of Rocky will be recast and as soon as we know anything about it you can be sure you’ll be the first to know.

With production going into full swing next year we can expect a late 2021 or 2022 release date, so are you guys looking forward to this as much as I am? Let us know in the comments.
