Could Get Out’s Jordan Peele be looking into doing a Candyman reboot?

Candyman, Candyman,  Candyman,  Candyman,  Candyman…

Candyman was a pretty impressive horror movie franchise from the 90s that, like most franchises, diminished as it went on, however, there’s no denying that the Clive Barker-created monster was a pretty big deal for a while and made a star out of actor Tony Todd.

However, the story of the son of a slave who had his hand cut off and was, improbably, murdered with bees by his white lover’s father is looking like it could be making a comeback under the guidance of Get Out’s Jordan Peele.

A new report is suggesting that the rights to the franchise is up for grabs and the Get Out director is possibly looking at them: “In poking around for a revival screening, I learned that the rights have become available once again.

“Tri-Star had released the first two films while Artisan was behind 1999’s Day of the Dead. While I’m unsure who is the current rights holder – it may have reverted back to Clive Barker for all I know – I do know that Jordan Peele is in talks to produce a remake of the film through his Monkeypaw Productions. It’s unclear if he plans to direct. Sounds sweets to the sweet to me.”

Peele’s Get Out is a movie that I’ve only watched in the last week and I have to admit, it was a fantastic piece of film-making, tapping into so many social issues and fears, so seeing what he could bring to an out-and-out horror laced with urban mythology is something I’d be very keen to see.

What about you, horror fans?
