As the little franchise that could, Fast & Furious started off as a low brow cars and girls movie and has ended up as a ludicrously successful and very fun series of movies… especially with Justin Lin helming; the last two were among the best action movies in recent years.
However, the upcoming seventh installment has had a very bumpy ride, with Lin leaving – replaced by James Wan – and the death of star Paul Walker. However, it will be released next year and the fans, myself among them, are very, very excited.
But, is it time to call it a day on these movie? Well, perhaps.
James Wan has apparently decided to leave the series (after one installment) to continue with The Conjuring movie series, so the F&F movies are now looking for a director again.
Deadline are reporting that Universal are hoping to get Lin back on board for what will essentially be a two-part series finale which would be shot back-to-back.
Lin, of course, is a busy man; he’s signed on for the opening two episodes of True Detective Season 2, plus the movies 3D Shaolin Temple and the Aaron Cross Bourne spin-off sequel (if it still happens).
We all would love to see Lin return to the franchise that he, frankly, raised higher than it should have been.. what about you guys?
Fast & Furious 7 arrives on April 3, 2015
