Dan Aykroyd discusses part of plot of next Ghostbusters movie

July 20th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We’ve got a bit of news surrounding the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, reports Jason at Ghostbusters News, as on a recent episode of Dan Schreiber’s podcast, We Can Be Weirdos, guest Dan Aykroyd, in between discussing his Crystal Head Vodka brand and various close encounters, let it slip that part of the film’s premise will center around cursed objects.

As part of the guest introduction, Aykroyd would verbally fill out the Batshit List, a staple of the podcast, that Schrieber compared to the classic Ghostbusters scene that had Janine Melnitz questioning Winston Zeddemore’s various beliefs, among them mental telepathy and the theory of Atlantis.

Aykroyd, who answered “yes” to just about everyone, including ghosts (obviously), UFOs, superstitions, time traveling, and the sasquatch, would then get to cursed objects, quickly recounting a Michael Jackson story, then revealing details of the upcoming sequel, saying:

“Michael Jackson bought that armoire. I think he bought it at the Paris flea market. Brought it home to his house, and the thing would rattle, and the thing – there was something going on in there, so he finally had to sell it, and that’s part of the premise of the new Ghostbusters movie we’re working on. Objects can hold spirits, and they can hold energy, and they can have, as you know, the term, it’s called psychometric value.”

The moment comes at about 15:10 in the episode, with the clip found below:

Obviously, the concept of cursed objects is anything but new to the Ghostbusters film franchise, with the entire plot of Ghostbusters II centered around the 16th-century tyrant Vigo the Carpathian’s spirit residing within a painting. 2009’s critically acclaimed Ghostbusters: The Video Game would bring back the possessed artifact, in addition to using cursed objects as collectibles throughout the main campaign. There’s also the recently released Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, which allows Ghosts to possess or haunt objects, further increasing the odds when playing online.

In other Dan Aykroyd news, last night, the actor made a statement through social media, yet again reconfirming his involvement in the next Ghostbusters while also praising the work of co-star Patton Oswalt, declaring, “In UK working on Ghostbusters. Cracking a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka to celebrate my day with comic genius Patton Oswalt. His stuff alone worth price of admission.”

The as-yet-untitled Ghostbusters sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023, and in addition to Aykroyd and Oswalt, includes a cast of returning favorites, among them Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, in addition to series newcomers Kumail Nanjianie, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
