Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, is currently in talks to star in BBC Films’ Grand Theft Auto which will tell the story of game creator Sam Houser who had a legal battle with a Miami lawyer who set out to ban video game violence.
Owen Harris, director of episodes of the superb Misfits and Black Mirror, will be helming.
In real life Houser was co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA, Max Payne and Red Dead. His opponent was attorney Jack Thompson who campaigned against rap and sex on the airwaves and eventually he turned his attention to GTA for its gratuitous violence, before he was eventually disbarred. He has yet to be cast.
The script, previously titled Rockstar Games, will begin shooting on April 20th and is based on a book by David Kushner titled Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto.
Not exactly the video game adaptation we were hoping for but nonetheless, this should be a fascinating watch.
