Dave Filoni would love to direct a live-action Star Wars project

April 18th, 2017 by Marc Comments

We’ve said it for years but it now looks like the man behind Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, Dave Filoni, would be keen to take a step into a bigger world…

Yes, Dave Filoni has said that he would be up for directing a live-action Star Wars adventure. With it being well known that Lucafilm/Disney are keen to keep Star Wars going every year for, well, forever, they are constantly looking for new talent to explore the galaxy far, far away.

Speaking at Star Wars Celebration Orlando at the weekend Filoni was asked about his desire to direct a live-action movie for the ongoing Saga: “I’d be crazy to say I’m not interested in that,” he said.

“I don’t want to say that would be the ultimate, because I really enjoy the stories I’m telling now and I would never undercut them by saying they’re something less. I think the craft we do and the work we do in these series is tremendous and the artists we have working on them are amazing. But I can’t help but be curious about this live-action world and what I see there and the tremendous opportunities that are around me.”

He continued: “It is very interesting to me, I respect the craft that it is, it’s a different style. I’ve been observing and learning a lot about it to see how I would do (it) and if it fits with my creative vision for things or would I encumber the process.

“I don’t do things like that unless I feel like I do have a real ownership and mastery of it, I just think it’s disrespectful to the crew that you would work with, who would obviously been tremendous professionals and I wouldn’t want to hinder them in any way. You know, we’ll see. In some circles you find you’re a master and in some circles you’re still a Padawan, we should always be learning, all of us. Always be learning.”

We love how humble Filoni is about this and how he would never belittle the animated universe he’s currently ruling over and we also know that if he DID step into the live-action universe he would (perhaps temporarily) leave the animated world without guidance and we’re not sure how that would work out as we can’t imagine anon doing a great a job as him… but we’re torn because we’ve wanted to see a live-action Dave Filoni movie for years. Oh, Star Wars, how you toy with us.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
