Finally, it seems that Deadpool 3 is happening at Disney…
We’ve known for a while that Marvel and Kevin Feige wanted to bring Deadpool into the MCU with Ryan Reynolds in the mask, but the problem was always how to do it as Deadpool was part of the now scrapped X-Men franchise at 20th Century Fox and, as if that wasn’t enough, Deadpool was an R-rated hit and that didn’t fit in with the overall feel of the MCU on the big screen.
But now word is that the ball is finally rolling.
Deadline reports the third movie not be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who wrote the first two but will be penned Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, best known for their work on Bob’s Burgers, where they are writers and executive producers.
Word is that, while not officially greenlit yet, Feige himself is very keen for this to happen and happen soon.
Deadpool 3 is not officially greenlit just yet, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is involved with the upcoming project.
David Leitch, Deadpool 2 director, is also not expected to return.
Little else is known as of now but it seems that the movie may keep it’s R-rating – although, I think with Once Upon A Deadpool, it was clear that the character can work as a more family-friendly entity too.
As for how would he come into the MCU? Well, we now Marvel is now looking to explore the multi-verse so that’s one way… have him simply stumble into the franchise. But fans of Deadpool 2 will recall that he had a time travel device at the end of that movie and I’d imagine it wouldn’t be hard to have that lead him out of his own reality… maybe he leaps dimensions or perhaps he’ll alter something that will create the MCU.
Or… let’s not forget JK Simmons’ return as J Jonah Jameson in Spider-man: Far from Home, reviving his character from the Sony/Raimi movies… maybe Wade Wilson/Deadpool already exists in the MCU and we just haven’t met him yet.
Whatever way they do it, I look forward to seeing him return.
What say you all? Are you looking forward to having Deadpool meet the Avengers? Let me know…
