Oh, Deadpool in the MCU, what is the plan?
We know that Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, is happy and seems confident that Deadpool IS set to crossover from the Fox X-Men movies to the MCU (now that Marvel/Disney own the X-Men again thanks to the Fox merger) (here) but we also know that Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld doesn’t believe there’s any plans for Deadpool yet (here) and now another Deadpool star, that beautiful Morena Baccarin, has said that she has not been approached about a new movie.
Baccarin plays Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool’s fiancée Vanessa and, as such, is the heart of the movies – especially the second – and, after a great series of scenes during the second movie’s credits, is alive and well the last time we saw her.
However, it seems she’s fully in the dark a third movie.
“Apparently, they’re still writing it. I genuinely don’t know. I have not been asked, or approached. There’s been no conversations yet, so I’m waiting with bated breath,” the actress said.
However, she added that she if she is back, she hopes loves Reynolds’ performance in the movies and “would love to be right by his side”.
We know that in the comics Vanessa becomes the mutant Copycat – she can shapeshift – and is part of X-Force, the militant arm of the X-Men who were used to hilarious effect in Deadpool 2 and, on that, while at Fox, it seems that may have still been on the cards with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writer Rhett Reese saying at the time: “We’re leaving that option open.
“We certainly haven’t made any decisions along those lines. But we always thought that might be a fun twist for her at some point.”
He added: “The question is how to give her those powers without it feeling too coincidental. You have to iron out the logic if we go there… but why not? I think people would love to see Vanessa kicking ass.”
Why not, indeed?
If Marvel does bring Deadpool into the MCU – and we still feel confident they will – then we definitely want Vanessa by his side in one way or another.
What say you all, Deadpool fans? I want to hear your thoughts, gang.
