Diablo Cody really wants to write more Jennifer’s Body movies

January 31st, 2024 by Marc Comments

It looks like 2009’s Jennifer’s Body, the horror that cemented Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried as household names, might be set for a sequel/prequel or… musical according to the original writer.

Diablo Cody, who also wrote Juno and is currently doing the press for Lisa Frankenstein, her new horror comedy, has teased that she really wants to bring Fox and Seyfried back for Jennifer’s further adventures.

“I would love to bring Megan and Amanda back – that would be ideal,” Cody says.

“I want to go back to that world so badly that I’ve thought of various permutations that we could do. Like we could do a prequel; we could do a sequel; we could do a musical. I’m like ‘Anything anyone wants to do, I’m down. I just need to find the right partner.”

Going it, it seems that she really wants to add to the story, not just cash in on the first movie’s performance: “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe in it as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

The movie was a failure when it came out but over time it has found its audience and really has become something of a cult classic, something that Cody is well aware of and, at the time of its release, found hard to deal with: “It was a rough experience having that movie come out. It was rough for me, it was rough for Megan… [then] people started suddenly talking about it like it was a good movie, which I had thought all along. At first, I just thought, oh where was this audience when I needed it and then I realized they were like… seven. And then some people who maybe didn’t appreciate it at the time have come around and now I’m just like, there’s no saltiness, now I’m just happy.”

I’m going to be honest, Jennifer’s Body passed my by when it came out and I’ve never gotten around to watching it – though that poster did get, and hold, my attention – but I think I might track it down and watch it soon because I am a fan of Cody, Fox and Seyfried, and I do enjoy the wicked humour that the movie seems to have, so I think this is one I might have to join the ‘where were you when?’ crowd on. Better late than never, right?
