We’ve been reporting on the Mary Poppins sequel for a while now (here) and, while Julie andrews isn’t playing the title role this time – Emily Blunt has the gig this time – we’re still excited for it.
And we’ve been wondering if anyone will play Bert, the role made famous by Dick Van Dyke in the movie and while we still don’t know, we have the next best think… Van Dyke himself is returning!
Now, we don’t think he’ll be Bert as this movie is only set two decades after the original (which was in 1964!) but the actor himself ha confirmed he’s set for the movie: “This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up,” he said.
“It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.”
This is great news, indeed and should be a lovely nod to the original for fans new and old.
Now, altogether: “Chim-chiminey, chim-chiminey, chim, chim, cheroo…”
