Did actor Joe Manganiello just fan the flames of the Standalone Deathstroke movie rumours?

Well now, isn’t this a thing?

Only a couple of days ago we reported that The Raid and The Raid 2’s Gareth Edwards could be lining up to direct a standalone Deathstroke movie for the DC/Warners universe (here) and then this happens.

So basically, for those who don’t know (although, since you’re here we’re betting you do), Deathstroke/Slade Wilson was set to be the villain in The Batman movie directed by Ben Affleck (here) however, when Affleck stood down it looked like the character may no longer be in the movie (although we don’t know that for sure).

So then the news of a standalone movie starring Joe Manganiello came up, the internet reacted – as the internet does – very positively. Edwards’ direction would be a natural fit for the movie as and then, seeming to exist only to excite the fans, Manganiello tweeted and image – nothing more – of the eye of his Deathstroke costume.

We know the suit already exists as Ben Affleck shared footage of it while filming Batman V Superman (here).

So what does it all mean? The timing around the Edwards announcement would certainly imply that there’s truth to it and the actor is ‘confirming’ it. However it could also simply be a harmless tweet or perhaps related to  The Batman or maybe one of the other upcoming DC movies.

Whatever it is, we’re pretty sure we’re soon going to see Deathstroke in the DC cinematic universe. And we’re just fine with that.
