Disney’s live-action Aladdin has found its Jafar…

While we found out a couple of weeks back (here) who would be who in Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin with Mena Massoud as Aladdin along with the Pink Power Ranger from the latest movie, Naomi Scott as Jasmin and, most interestingly, the Genie will be played by… Will Smith!

But now we know who will be playing the big bad Jafar, the grand vizier to the sultan of the Agrabah… Marwan Kenzari (above), star of the upcoming Murder on the Orient Express. Well, he’s in final negotiations at least.

On top of this news, former Saturday Night Live comedienne Nasim Pedrad will appear in a role created for this version of the tale: Mara, the handmaiden and friend to Jasmine.

The story, which aims to follow that of Disney’s 1992 animated classic while also taking cues from the folktales in One Thousand and One Nights, is set in Agrabah, a fictional cosmopolitan city inspired by locations and cultures from the Middle East to India and China.

So, the players are all in place…. are you looking forward to seeing the live-action version of this Disney classic and, most importantly, can Will Smith REALLY hope to match the brilliance of the late Robin Williams as the Genie?

Thoughts, feelings and speculations, we want to hear them all…

Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
