Does A Star Wars Story: Rogue One feature A New Hope’s Biggs Darklighter?

August 18th, 2015 by Marc 7 Comments

Our friend Paul Bateman has speculated a few things on Facebook about the A Star Wars Story: Rogue One cast image (above) and we like them so much we thought we’d share them with you all…

“Hmm, Diego Luna is sporting a very Biggs Darklighter look for Rogue One,” writes Paul and “Felicity Jones’ gloves in Rogue One are feeling a lot like a throw back to Boba Fett’s proto gloves….”

We find it hard to argue; could Deigo Luna indeed be Bigg Darklighter (played by Garrick Hagon in A New Hope?). We hope so because we LOVE the idea of it… Rogue Squadron – Rogue One. Hmmmmm, indeed?

We’ve pointed out the speculations in the image below.

Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed. Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope  and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new  territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know.

Rogue One is set for release on December 16, 2016.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

He has a moustache, therefore you equate him to one of the few men in the originals who had a moustache and dark hair. And sorry, but those gloves look nothing alike, only insofar as all gloves look alike

The rumour that he’s Biggs is still very much a big one, my friend. And the gloves have the circle and are fingerless. So yeah, we reckon they are both fair points. It’s fun to speculate, it’s what being a fan is all about.

      • Night of the Lepus

It’s just a rumour and rumours more often than not become nothing.
While it’s fun to speculate, the gloves are simply a case of cognitive bias.

Anyway it’s worth pointing out that those gloves wherever that picture of Boba Fett comes from, feature neither in Empire Strikes Back or Return of The Jedi. – Empire – Jedi

          That’s what ‘proto’ means…

          • Night of the Lepus

Throwing in an arbitrary word with no context means….
The Boba Fett gloves have been debunked and a moustache is nothing more than speculation.
Sometimes it’s best to man up and accept your error

If that’s the case we gladly would. The thing about Star Wars is the designs that don’t get used usual pop up later. And clearly that’s what happened here. And we did say it’s a theory.

I’m on your side nerd, the fun of being a fan comes with speculation and theories — don’t let baby hitler over there poop on your parade!
