25 years (25?!) have passed since the last time we saw Axel Foley – played by Eddie Murphy – in action in the disappointing Beverly Hills Cop 3 and there’s been rumours numerous times over those years of a fourth instalment.
Sadly, that never happened… until now, it seems.
Speaking to Collider, Murphy revealed that he plans to resurrect the franchise after he’s done with the sequel to Coming To America: “Yeah, that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America, we’re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then, then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand up and then kind of that’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand up and Beverly Hills Cop.”
He went on: “I keep saying it, these movies and Saturday Night Live I’m looking at it as a book end and if I decide I just want to stay on the couch forever I ended it on a funny note and I’ll do standup if I’m feeling creative.”
“I can get up on stage and do my standup and if, you know, some incredible filmmaker comes along with some great movie or there’s a great opportunity, but I’m not going to be making movies two three a year like I did back in the early days because I like to just be home with the kids.”
With Murphy making a reportedly solid return with Dolemite is My Name, it would be great to see him riding high back into the role of Foley… even just once more.
What say you all?
