Edgar Wright in the running to direct the 25th James Bond movie!? Yes, please!

August 24th, 2018 by Marc Comments

So we were all miffed that Danny Boyle has left the director’s chair of Bond 25 over ‘creative differences’.

Word on the street is that Boyle wanted to put 007 in a cold war type situation which led to John Hodge’s script setting Bond against a Russian enemy but somewhere along the way he and star Daniel Craig – who has a big say on these movies – didn’t see eye-to-eye, resulting in Boyle walking.

However, all is not lost as it seems there’s a few other directors of pretty high calibre on the list to step up.

One especially has us excited… Shaun Of The Dead and Baby Driver’s Edgar Wright.

Here’s the details on who is apparently waiting in the wings according to Deadline:

“Nobody is talking, but I’ve heard an approach was made to Jean-Marc Vallee, who followed Dallas Buyers Club with the limited series Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. I’ve heard his participation is unlikely due to scheduling. Another name I’m hearing as a real possibility is Baby Driver‘s Edgar Wright, who has said he would love to do a James Bond. The other two helmers who were on a short list are Hell or High Water‘s David Mackenzie and Yann Demange, the ’71 director who helmed White Boy Rick.So there are good filmmakers who are available and if any of them accept, chances are Bond 25 would keep its date, I’m told.”

Edgar Wright?! Word is Wright is very keen to do a 007 movie and honestly, we were talking here at FTN HQ recently about how the Bond movies have become too much like Bourne and need to find the fun and humour again… now, tell us Wright isn’t the man for THAT gig.

Exactly.

We’ll keep you posted. And yes, the movie is still set (so far) for release on November 8th, 2019.

Thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
