Em… is Ben Affleck still on for the Justice League sequel?

Wait, what?

Ok, don’t get too excited… we think this is just a mistake, but Variety is reporting that Ben Affleck will play Batman in a Justice League sequel.

In a new article highlighting Affleck’s career so far, the site talks about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and has this to say:

With “Batman v. Superman,” Affleck got his second chance to suit up and fight crime, but this time around in the DC universe. Unlike with “Daredevil,” the actor had the opportunity to reprise his role as the iconic superhero, returning as Batman in “Suicide Squad” and “Justice League.” Affleck will be portray the Dark Knight once again in the announced Justice League sequel.

So: “Affleck will be portray the Dark Knight once again in the announced Justice League sequel.”

Em… what?

You’ll recall that a few weeks ago Affleck stood down as the Caped Crusader (here) in the upcoming The Batman from Matt Reeves.

And the actor HAS said he’d be up for directing something at DC/Warners: “I imagine it would be weird to step in and do another character,” Affleck said. “I can certainly imagine directing a movie if they would have me. You know, if it was something I jive with and was passionate about. It’s not about closing doors on stuff, just couldn’t figure out how I wanted to do that one, so it came time to let someone else take a crack at it.”

However, we have theorised that the new movie from Reeves will focus on a younger Batman and we still believe that if this is all true we COULD still see Affleck return to the role in a future movie set in the same timeline as Bvs, Man of Steel and Justice League.

That said, we do still think this is simply a misprint… but we’re still full of hope.
