What?! No, seriously, what?!
It seems that Paramount Pictures has got Dolemite Is My Name director Craig Brewer to make a sequel to Coming to America with Eddie Murphy set to return as Akeem.
In the original 1988 comedy Murphy played an Africa prince who came to New York to find a wife rather than take one who was chosen for him at home.
And then much fish out of water hi-jinx ensues.
It’s actually a pretty funny movie but not in a million years would we have dreamed a sequel was coming.

Kenya Barris is rewriting a script by original Coming to America writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield.
The story goes like this: Akeem learns about a long lost son, and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda. The intention is to bring back the original cast which includes Arsenio Hall, who played the prince’s aide Semmi; Shari Headley, who was courted by the prince when he went undercover as a fast food worker; John Amos, who played her father; and James Earl Jones, who played the king.
Eddie Murphy had this to say: “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward.
“We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
No more word on it for now but we’re sure this will be going to film this year and we’re equally sure more casting and news will be happening soon.
We’ll, as always, keep you posted.
Are you excited to meet Akeem again? Let us know…
