Ernie Hudson casts doubt on Ghostbusters future again as Jason Reitman shares set pic from new movie

March 3rd, 2023 by Marc Comments

In a recent interview, Ghostbusters star – and all-round legend and top bloke – Ernie Hudson hinted that he may not be involved in the new movie set to start filming very soon.

In the interview Hudson spoke about how he felt left out of the first movie (here) and that, despite being set up in Ghostbusters: Afterlife as seemingly the new face of Ghostbusters going forward, he fears he may not even be in the movie due to his role in the movie still being fairly insignificant: “We’re negotiating a new movie that’s gearing up to start shooting in March, and I’m like, WGuys, you know, there’s a place that I, I’m not an add-on,” so, if I’m going to do it, it has to make sense.”

As major fans of Hudson, Winston and Ghostbusters as a whole, we’d be very disappointed if he didn’t appear in the movie in a major role.

However, the star has doubled down on, saying he’s still not sure of his role in the franchise going forward: “They’re doing another one, and I’m not sure if I’ll be in it, but for the fans to know, it won’t be because of me.”

Now, this is very upsetting news for everyone involved and also very surprising as it was very clear that writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan wanted Winston to be the centre of the Ghostbusters universe, being a successful business that now finances Ghostbusters Inc.

In the interview, below, it’s clear that Hudson is upset at the news and it has us questioning what exactly is happening here  is the studio messing Hudson around? Do they not want him back? Is he trying to hold out for more money?

Is it possible that with the possible inclusion, as with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver once more, the studio feels that Hudson’s role in the movie doesnt’ need to be so significant? That rather than giving him the spotlight, they want to give to to all the returning cast?

We know that the movie is set to begin very soon in the UK and co-writer Jason Reitman shared an image of himself and director Gil Kenan in the being-constructed Firehouse in the Uk, where filming is about to kick off:

Look, this movie is about to film, the idea that they don’t know Hudson’s role in it is ridiculous, so it seems obvious that something else is at play and we really hope it can be resolved.

We’re very, very excited about Ghostbusters: Firehouse but I can’t lie, if Hudson gets screwed over, it will be a bitter pill to swallow for everyone involved, so we hope it’s not the case.

So, if you’re listening Sony, do what’s needed and make Winston the driving force behind the Ghostbusters, where he should be.

Ghostbusters: Firehouse will be directed by Gil Kenan and will also star and returning cast Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon.
