Director Peter Jackson hosted an online question and answer session on Sunday to promote the recent Blu-ray release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, during which time he gave fans their first look at Evangeline Lilly ( Lost ) as the elf Tauriel in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Tauriel, who is of Legolas’ kin, is not based on any of J.R.R. Tolkien’s characters and was created by Jackson and his co-writers just for their screen adaptation.
“We’re quite excited about the storyline we have created for Tauriel. As you can see, she’s not an Elf Guard to be messed with.”
