Ewan McGregor is still “waiting for the call” to reprise Obi-Wan role…

While many people have issues with the Star Wars Prequels, what many agree on is that, by the time we got to Episode III, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi was pretty damned awesome.

So awesome that rumours have persisted for quite some time that he was set for a standalone movie now that Star Wars has a new home.

However, it may not be the case according to the actor himself; speaking to MTV at Sundance, McGregor was adamant that he is as in the dark as anyone: “No! I’m still waiting for the call! Seriously!

“literally, I have had nothing. Nothing.”

But would he want to come back? “I don’t know how it could work, because I don’t know what those stories are. I never discussed them with George [Lucas] when we made ours, so I have no idea what the three storylines are.

“I suppose, after my last one, after Episode III, I become Alec Guinness, and then Alec Guinness is cut down by Lord Vader, and goes into [The Force]. But then, if he came back from there wouldn’t he be Alec Guinness? Why would he suddenly be me?”

He has watched the trailer for The Force Awakens? “I saw it over someone’s shoulder, I was watching on a film set, I watched it like that. And I saw the hilt come [out], and I went: done.

“You don’t need hilts! If you have a lightsaber, you don’t need a silly hilt. Hilts are for– Anyway, I won’t say it… the Jedi Order managed very well without hilts for hundreds of millions of years!”

So who wants an Obi-Wan Movie? Yeah, us too…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
